Peter Pilotto for Target

images-2

Last Sunday I did the unthinkable. I dragged two kids under the age of 3 to Target on a sunday morning at 730 to shop the new Peter Pilotto for Target collection. Imagine?

I didn’t say the actual outing (or I) was pretty – but it happened and I managed to pick up all the pieces I had my eye on since the collection leaked out to the public months ago.

What I love most about this group is the use of prints and colour.  It’s so refreshing to see bold reds and ocean blues amongst the backdrop of cold harsh greys from Mother Nature.  The use of prints makes it easy to look like you spent hours coordinating the right piece to go with your new skirt – when in fact – it was all one piece. Gotta love when designers take the guesswork out of getting dressed in the morning, right?

In terms of price point, sunglasses started at $16 and the highest price dress I saw was $89 (the one below).

Here are the pieces that I swooned over and then made my daughter hold for me so that the next fashionista wouldn’t steal my size. After all, that would be like taking candy from a baby. And who would really take candy from a baby?!

The Power of A Coat

In this winter weather, a coat can make or break your outfit.  Literally, you could be wearing pajamas underneath, but if you have the right fitting coat, nobody would even notice.

There are countless articles, photos, and stores that offer tips on how to shop for a coat and where to buy one.  Rather than suggesting where to buy – here are a few tips to help you decide what “fit” of coat you should look for.

If your body shape is curvy…buy a belted coat.  You want to highlight your waist so find either a wrap style or a single breasted coat with a belt detail that you can cinch.  Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t flaunt your curves!

If your body shape is straight…buy an embellished coat.  A faux-fur collar, leatherette details, or rusching detail will add some extra volume.

If your body shape is pear…buy a fit and flare coat.  Choose a coat that cinches at the waist and flows out over the hips. Kind of like that favourite wrap dress or the 50′s fit and flare style that works so well on pear-shaped women.

If your body shape is inverted triangle…buy an classic lapel coat.  Skip the high necks and funnel collars as you want to elongate your neck as much as possible.   Keeping the classic lapel makes it easier for you to add a scarf without feeling like  you are adding too much bulk up top.

When trying on a coat, make sure you have a thin sweater underneath and can lift your arms like you were driving a car.

Permission to run to your coat closet is now granted.
